How does the ecodis® work?

The disinfecting cell of the ecodis® contains specially coated, permanent electrodes. A direct current with low voltage level sees to it that oxygen and chlorine radicals are formed from the water itself (without adding chemicals), resulting in immediate disinfection. Bacteria, viruses, algae and other micro-organisms are thus destroyed. Both radicals powerfully reinforce one another and in their turn activate reactive disinfectants (free chlorine), which provide for any remaining disinfection and residual effects.
Practical tests show that the disinfecting power of the ecodis® is much higher than that of the same disinfectant level using NaOCl (bleach or bleaching agents). The patented electrodes partly suppress the formation of activated oxidants from chlorides. Therefore, the production of undesirable trihalomethanes is considerably lower  compared with the same disinfectant potential by the addition of chlorine and salt or produced by chlorine electrolysis.

A major advantage of the ecodis® is the formation of the various active disinfecting components from the water in status nascendi. Its distribution is much more homogeneous than that of a dosage of NaOCl or other chemicals. Local overdosing and the associated formation of additional harmful by-products are impossible. A limited formation of low gas concentrations (the breakdown of biofilm is accompanied by the formation of CO2) will, if necessary, be released via appropriate ventilation.

From an economic perspective, too, the ecodis® contributes to an efficient solution with regard to water hygiene. No losses occur, as the oxidants are produced directly in the water.

The electric use per m³ of water to be treated is very low indeed (typically 20 - 50 Watt per m³ of treated water). The use of permanent, long-lasting electrodes also contributes to the low operational costs.

Thanks to its excellent immediate effect, its unmistakably good residual effect and the adjustable degree of disinfection, the ecodis® achieves an exceedingly efficient disinfection compared to other techniques. Disinfecting with the ecodis®  is environmental-friendly and is not harmful to your health.
